The National Living Wage and the National Minimum Wage rates change on 1 April every year.
The National Living Wage applies to those aged 21 and over whereas the National Minimum Wage applies to those of at least school leaving age.
From 1 April 2025 the National Living Wage is increasing from £11.44 per hour to £12.21 per hour, an increase of 0.77 pence per hour.
The National Minimum Wage depends on age, for those that are aged 18 to 20 the National Minimum Wage is increasing from £8.60 per hour to £10.00 per hour, an increase of £1.40 per hour. For those that are aged under 18 the National Minimum Wage is increasing from £6.40 per hour to £7.55 per hour, an increase of £1.15 per hour.
For Apprentices aged either under 19 or aged over 19 and in their first year of their apprenticeship the National Minimum Wage is increasing from £6.40 per hour to £7.55 per hour, again an increase of £1.15 per hour.
If you are an employer you must ensure that you apply these rates of pay from 1 April 2025. If you are an employee please review your April payslips to ensure that you are being paid at the required rate of pay.
